Combining improvisation and contemporary storytelling to illustrate the parables found in The Gospel According to Matthew, Godspell has entertained audiences around the world. The fun-filled score, by Stephen Schwartz, who also wrote the smash hit Wicked, incorporates a variety of styles including pop, folk rock, gospel and vaudeville. Many of the songs featured in the show, including Day by Day, Learn Your Lessons Well, All For The Best, All Good Gifts, Turn Back, O Man and By My Side have become staples of the American Musical Theatre and pop culture alike.
